Rare CASE Tested XX CODY hunting knife – 1920th split-stag handle Hunter-Skinner, custom-made leather sheath. VERY hard to find early CASE type.
Rare vintage W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery CODY model Hunter-Skinner with early split-stag handle and custom-made leather sheath. The “named” line of hunting knives was Case’s attempt to capitalize on some of the most popular “American West” characters like William Frederick Cody – aka Buffalo Bill – and Christopher “Kit” Carson – “Carson” Hunter. This specimen was hand-finished circa 1920th-1934 at the Case factory in Bradford, PA, USA.
The knife is in used condition, but it’s in much better than average condition for the type. These Case XX “CODY” knives are rare in any shape or form these days, especially with the stag handle (most of these had stacked leather & colored fiber washers handles). Pinned split-stag handle with colored fiber and brass washers; aluminum pommel and guard; all parts are tight with no play. Stag handle scales are in excellent shape with no cracks or chips; rare this nice. The knife is about 9-1/8″ / 23.2 cm overall; the thick fullered blade is about 4-1/8″ / 10.4 cm; it’s razor-sharp still, the tip is intact. Dark-brown leather sheath seems to be a custom-made piece that was done relatively recently. The sheath is in excellent condition with all parts intact; the leather is soft and supple; the keeper is nice and tight. Rare “Case Tested” era CASE Tested XX CODY hunting knife in excellent overall condition, considering the age. This knife will be a welcome addition to any collection.
