Rare CASE Tested XX CARSON knife 1920th split-stag handle hunting knife, vintage leather sheath. VERY hard to find early “Case Tested” type these days.
Rare vintage W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery CARSON model 5″ blade Hunter with early split-stag handle and vintage leather sheath. The “named” line of hunting knives was Case’s attempt to capitalize on some of the most popular “American West” characters like William Frederick Cody – aka Buffalo Bill – and Christopher “Kit” Carson – thus the “Carson” Hunter. This specimen was hand-finished circa 1920th-1934 at the Case factory in Bradford, PA, USA.
The knife is in used condition, but this type is rare in any shape or form these days, especially with the stag handle (most “Carsons” had stacked leather & colored fiber washers handles). Pinned split-stag handle with colored fiber and brass washers; aluminum pommel and guard; all parts are tight with no play. The knife is about 9-5/8″ / 24.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5″ / 12.7 cm; it’s very sharp still, the tip is intact. Dark-brown leather sheath seems to be a contemporary piece, but it’s probably not original to the knife. The leather is soft and supple; the keeper is damaged (an easy fix). Rare Case Tested era “Carson” Hunter in very good overall condition; this knife will be a welcome addition to any collection.
Also, I have a vintage and rare Case Tested XX CODY model Hunter-Skinner with the stag handle available for sale. I recently purchased several Case XX knives from a family of a long-time knife collector. I addition to vintage Case XX knives I have several other vintage American blades, as well as WW2 era fighting daggers and WW1 trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section. This rare CASE Tested XX CARSON knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition; these are the actual photos.
