Description

Canada WW2 Case XX marlin spike knife; scarce US-made Canadian military issue M346 folder in great overall condition, considering the age.

Scarce large WW2 era Marlin Spike sailor’s knife manufactured in the US for Canadian military by Case Cutlery in Bradford, PA. During WW2 Case made a relatively small quantity of these for the Canadian Navy. Designated by the Ordnance Stores department as “Knife, Clasp, with Marlin Spike and Tin Opener”, this specimen looks pretty much like the early British counterparts, except that The American-made knives were of better quality.  This type is illustrated on pages 191-192 of BRITISH AND COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES book Ron Flook – a well-established expert on this subject. Attached is a copy of the WW2 photo with the Canadian scout in manning a sniper position somewhere in Normandy in the summer of 1944. The man has an identical marlin spike folder hanging off his belt (original photo is not included with the knife).

This specimen is used, but it is in great overall condition for this type. This large folder is about 5″ / 12.7 cm closed; heavy-duty marlin spike is about 4-1/4” / 10.8 cm long; needle-like tip in intact; the spike is nice and tight with no play. Spear-point blade is about 3-3/4″ / 9.6 cm long; it has been sharpened – it is razor-sharp still. The tip is intact; the blade is intact with just a bit of play when opened. The tin opener blade is in great shape with just some minor surface rust (cleanable). The tin opener’s tip is also intact; the blade is tight with no play. The tangs are stamped CASE XX / METAL STAMPINGS / LTD  Original aluminum handle is stamped with the Canadian “broad arrow”  inside letter C arsenal acceptance stamp. The handle is tight; original shackle (clasp) is intact; all handle parts are solid with no play; a few minor dings are noted for accuracy.  This rare Canadian model M346 Canada WW2 Case XX marlin spike knife is in great overall condition, considering the age. Don’t miss your chance to add this rare military knife to your collection!

This original Canada WW2 Case XX marlin spike knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way. It is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
