CAMILLUS WW2 Pilot Knife American USAF-issue survival “bail-out knife”, original leather scabbard included. Scarce “square logo” type; great overall condition.
Scarce American WW2 era US Army/Navy Pilot Knife by CAMILLUS CUTLERY with original leather scabbard; this is more scarce “square logo” type. This type was issued to the American aircrews during WW2 as an all-purpose knife in case of a bail-out. During the war a relatively small order of “pilot knives” was placed with Camillus; these Pilot Knives are scarce in good condition these days. This exact type is illustrated on page 85 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached).
This CAMILLUS WW2 Pilot Knife / survival knife is in excellent overall condition – carbon steel blade with “blood grooves”. The blade has been re-sharpened; it is razor- sharp still. Ricasso is stamped with the seldom-seen “square type” CAMILLUS CUTLERY logo. Stacked leather washers handle with red-black-n-bronze spacers, bronze guard, and an aluminum pommel. The handle is tight with no play. The knife is about 9-1/4″ / 23.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5″ /12.7 cm long. The original brown leather scabbard is in excellent condition, considering the age; all original rivets and stitching; the keeper is intact. Overall, this CAMILLUS WW2 Pilot Knife/survival knife and original sheath are in much better than average shape for this type; don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
