Austria 1880 Ludwig Beethoven bronze medal. Large 63.6 mm medal struck by Anton Scharff; great overall condition, considering the age. VERY hard to find type nowadays.
Rare Austrian bronze medal issued in 1880 to commemorate the unveiling of composer Ludwig Wan Beethoven’s monument in Vienna, Austria. An impressive high-relief large medal struck in bronze. The design and dies were done by the famous medallist Anton Scharff.
Rare to begin with, this medal is in scarce “as-made” condition with no typical scratches or dings; a couple of minor rim bumps are noted for accuracy. Gorgeous specimen with very attractive chocolate-brown patina throughout; the only detraction is a small green spot on obverse – cleanable. The medal weighs about 110.7 grams, about 63.6 mm in diameter; plain rim.
