Antique EM DICKINSON Sheffield England dual-edge dagger with German silver guard / stag handle and original leather sheath; 1890th. RARE type
Antique 19th century dual-edge dagger concealed-carry knife with razor-sharp blade and attractively aged original stag handle with German silver guard. Made in the 1890th by the E.M. DICKINSON (registered in 1870) in Sheffield, England. Sheffield-made knives always played a big part in the American history. From the Gold Rushes in California and Yukon, to the battles the Civil War and in the frontier – Sheffield Bowies and daggers were hugely popular in every corner of the United States.
This dagger is obviously used, but it is in better than average condition and still in the original tubular leather sheath. The blade has been honed to a razor-like edge; the tip is a bit rounded but it’s very sharp still. Original stag handle scales are in great condition, considering the age – no cracks, chips or repairs. German silver guard is tight; all handle parts are solid with no play. Ricasso is stamped E.M. DICKINSON / SHEFFIELD / ENGLAND on one side. The dagger is about 10-1/4″ / 26 cm; the blade is about 6″ / 15.2 cm long. Original tubular construction leather sheath has lost its hanger loop and was modified for belt wear. In spite the advance age and obvious use and abuse in the filed, all stitching is still intact; the leather is soft and supple still.
Excellent and seldom seen these days antique EM DICKINSON Sheffield England dual-edge dagger / vintage boot knife in great overall shape – still in serviceable condition, even after over 120 years – a great find! This vintage Sheffield made dagger would be a welcome addition to any collection.
