Description

American WW2 Western L77 Commando fighting knife with blued blade. Original leather scabbard included – signed EDWALL. Rare type in great overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW2 era model L77 Commando Stiletto fighting knife manufactured during the war by Western Cutlery Co. in Boulder, Colorado. Very attractive blued blade type; comes with original leather scabbard. This fighting stiletto is about 11-1/4” / 28.4 cm overall; the blade is about 6-7/8″ / 17.5 cm. Fullered blade has been lightly re-sharpened; the tip is intact. No edge nicks or pitting on the blade; about 50% of the original blade blueing remaining. Stacked leather and colored fiber washers handle; steel guard and aluminum pommel. The handle is solid – all parts are tight; the guard has a tiny bit of a play.  No typical dings or nicks on the pommel – scarce this nice since a lot of these fighting knives were used to hammer-open rations’ crates and ammo boxes. This exact type is illustrated on page 236 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see book’s page scan attached).

Original leather scabbard is included. It is in well-used condition with the obvious signs of field use, but its is still in better than average condition for the type. The leather is soft and supple still; all original rivets are present but the stitching is mostly gone. An original keeper is intact; although the leather is a bot dry; GI’s name EDWALL is carved on the scabbard’s front panel. Overall, this American WW2 Western L77 Commando fighting knife with original leather scabbard is in 100% serviceable condition still. With proper care it will last you another 75 years 😉

This attractive fighting dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot. We have a few more American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
