Description

American WW2 theater fighting knife Cattaraugus Quartermaster conversion. One-of a kind WW-II era Fighter, original leather scabbard; excellent overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW2 era American fighting knife made from model 225Q Quartermaster utility/fighting knife manufactured during the war by Cattaraugus Cutlery in New York. I’ve placed an unaltered Cattaraugus  Quartermaster next to this fighter for comparison – see the photos attached (this lot includes just 1 knife, obviously). Model 225Q fighting/utility knife (Q stands for Quartermaster) was designed as a heavy-duty knife for opening ammo boxes, cargo crates, and hammer down nails (and/or enemy sculls) if needed. These Quartermasters were very popular with the troops and saw action in every major military theater during the War. This particular type is illustrated on pages 88-89 in the book KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s scan attached).

Looks like the blade shaped to a Bowie-style clipped point with a large “false” edge that has been sharpened to a razor-like edge. Leather washers handle has been re-stocked with red, black, and white fiber spacers added on the ends; the extra-wide guard and pommel are solid chunks of aluminum. All parts are tight with no play.  This interesting fighter is about 10-3/8″ / 26.4 cm overall; the blade is about 5-5/8″ / 14.3 cm; the blade is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. Original leather scabbard is in great shape; the keeper is nice and tight. The leather is soft and supple still; all stitching and rivets are intact. The knife’s overall quality is excellent; this knife was re-fit but a talented and experienced knife maker.

This interesting American WW2 theater fighting knife Cattaraugus Quartermaster conversion fighter has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. I have a few more more WW2 American fighting knives, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the store’s Militaria section.
