American Western Cutlery life raft rescue knife WW2 era US Navy / Air Force emergency knife with original leather scabbard. UNUSED; great overall condition; scarce this nice.
Original US World War-2 era life raft rescue knife made by Western Cutlery of Boulder, Colorado in scarce unused condition – the blade is still covered with rust-preventing cosmoline. Unissued & complete with the original leather sheath and yellow backing to be attached to a life raft or the interior of a plane – this type was mounted directly over the life raft’s fabric. These rescue knives were used to cut away clothing and gear from wounded servicemen, among many other tasks it was intended for; curved blade with a blunt tip was designed to prevent accidental injuries or raft punctures while cutting.
The knife is about 6″ / 5.2 cm overall; the blade is about 2-1/2″ / 6.4 cm; the tip is stamped WESTERN. Bright yellow hollow wood handle contains a 27″ / 68.5 cm long string attached to the sheath. The handle is solid; all parts are tight. Leather sheath is in excellent overall condition; the leather is still soft and supple.
